During 1930 Mrs. Gwenda Stewart broke the One Hour World Record at the banked race track at Monthlery, south of Paris, at a speed of over 100 m.p.h in a Morgan Three Wheeler.

She was later to achieve 117 m.p.h. in a single seater Morgan on the long straight at Arpajon nearby.

Just to prove we saw steam in action above is the 1872 Fowler beam engine in action.

Also on display was this huge model of the Poynton area in 1901, to a scale of 1/ 800th. I had not realised Poynton was such a coal mining area as it is very Hoity Toity nowadays, a bit different from Goldthorpe (Where they burnt Maggie in effigy)

MASTER Li & CAPTAIN CLOGIRON’S ANSON ENGINE MUSEUM TRIP. Part 1

While mainly infernal combustion, the Anson Engine Museum has a few steam engines which they run on certain Sundays. As die hard steam men this was must for Master Li and me but they have an I.C.engine there that we love more than any other motive power. it is the Gardner 4T5 Semi Diesel which has a row of four blowlamps across the cylinder heads, these are lit and play upon the cylinder heads for four minutes before the engine is ready to start. Once running the blowlamps are extinguished. It is so magnificently hands on and practical.None of your computerised push button stuff here. You can see this on a video HERE

Profound Thought.

They are always on about too many cars on the road, congestion etc. Master Li says that if all vehicles had blowlamp start engines, NO power steering and crash gearboxes the problem would be solved as only those with skill would be on the roads and there are not many of us. ( Master Li is an HGV driver and I drove Reliants with worn out synchromesh as well as a crash box MG F type)
