ROYSTON VASEY NOTES AND NEWS
Artillery Golf.
I recently came across an article on a way of livening up golf by using cannon. Click HERE
The writer is obviously not aware of the event that takes place annually on Oak Apple Day here at Royston Vasey.
Oak Apple Day is celebrated in England on 29 May to commemorate the restoration of the monarchy in Britain and Ireland, in May 1660.The Artillery Golf Event is organised by the Royston Vasey Rotary Round Table (who thanks to Master Li, actually possess a rotary round table, steam driven of course). It takes place at Crosland Heath Golf Club, and all the black powder is supplied by the adjacent Standard Fireworks Company.
The event is by invitation to those regiments of The English Civil War Society and The Sealed Knot that fought in Yorkshire.
Before the event a twenty four gun salute is fired outside the ruins of Vasey Castle to commemorate the epic battle fought there in 1644.
